Research dog breeds before choosing your new best friend.

Posted March 9 by Fido
There are so many elements to factor in when getting a new dog.   Large or Small Dog?   Couch potato or a jogging partner?  Apartment or House with a fenced yard?   Children?   Allergies?  Time to groom?     Far too many dogs end up in shelters because owners didn't research the breed characteristics and just picked the cutest puppy in the room.   While there are no guarantees with any breed, there are characteristics that tend to align with different breeds.

I can tell you from experience that if you're not up for several hours a week of grooming and a somewhat expensive tip to the groomer every 6-8 weeks then I can tell you from experience that you won't enjoy having on Old English Sheepdog no matter how cute they are!!!  My Toby is high maintenance and it's important to know what you are signing up for.

Here is a good reference site I found for researching breeds.   It allows you to take a quiz and get recommendations, search profiles of 200 breeds or review breeds by size: large, medium and small.

Then be sure align your toys and supplies with the size of the dog you are obtaining; whether it is a small dog, medium dog, or large dog!
