Make It a Safe Fourth of July Holiday for Your Dog

Keep your dog inside at home in a quiet area. Some dogs can become destructive when frightened so remove any fragile items. Leave a television or radio playing to keep him company.
Provide a “safe” place for your dog. Dogs will seek out a den-like place when they are frightened or stressed. Create a safe place and familiarize your dog with it before it’s needed to reduce stress during fireworks.
Don’t leave your dog in the car. July is traditionally the hottest month, even at night. Dogs can overheat very quickly, especially when stressed.
Use a leash or carrier. If you must be outside with your dog, keep him on a leash or in a carrier. Make sure your dog is wearing his ID tag so if he does become lost, he can be returned promptly.
Never leave your dog outside unattended, even in a fenced yard or on a chain. In their fear, a dog who normally won’t leave his yard may escape and get lost or become entangled in his chain.
